Celebrations marking the Premier's Awards 2004 were held at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel & Convention Centre, Toronto, Ontario, Canada on February 21, 2005. The Premier's Awards is presented to distinguished graduates of Ontario's Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology who best exemplify the potential of their Colleges.

Amongst the proud recipients of the 2004 awards is Esther Simon, Executive Director of the Broad African Resource Centre (BARC). A graduate of Seneca College Social Service Worker program, Esther was nominated for the award by Seneca College in recognition of her career success and outstanding work in the community. Esther is founder of BARC, a voluntary-run agency that helps African newcomers to Canada.

Addressing recipients and guests at the awards ceremony, the Premier of Ontario, Mr. Dalton McGuinty highlighted the success of the Ontario College system and pointed to the recipient's accomplishments as testimony to such success. He urged Colleges to strive harder to harness the talent of their students towards building a strong Ontario and Canada at large.

Also in attendance at the event was Mary Anne Chambers, the Ontario Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. In her address at the occasion, the Minister dwelt at length on how the partnership between Colleges and the government was yielding results. She also spoke on how government policy being directed to support Ontario Colleges. The theme of the Premier's Awards 2004 is "Celebrating Excellence".

Former Premier of Ontario, The Honourable Bob Rae, under whose leadership the Premier's Awards were instituted was presented with an honourary Premier's Award at the event.

The Premier's Awards 2004 was attended by representatives of all Ontario Colleges and ACAATO.

Esther Simon is also a proud receipient of the 2005 Distinguished Alumni Award from Seneca Colloge.
